Anacampseros telephiastrum, commonly known as the Rainbow Succulent, is a colourful and compact species native to South Africa. It forms low, spreading mats of fleshy leaves that shift in colour depending on light exposure—ranging from fresh green tones in partial shade to vibrant pinks, purples, and reds in full sun. Over time, it develops into dense, cushion-like clusters and may even form a small woody base at maturity, adding to its charm.

In summer, the plant produces star-shaped flowers in shades of bright pink to purple. These delicate blooms typically open in the afternoon and, while short-lived, appear in succession over the season, followed by small seedpods. The flowers also attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, adding movement and life to its already vibrant display. The combination of rainbow foliage and charming blossoms makes this succulent especially eye-catching in both garden and container settings.

Anacampseros telephiastrum thrives in well-draining soil and prefers the classic “soak and dry” watering routine—allowing the soil to dry completely before watering again. Overwatering should be avoided, as it can cause root rot. It is drought-tolerant, easy to grow, and best displayed in pots, rock gardens, or mixed succulent arrangements where its colourful foliage and flowers can shine. While not frost-hardy, it can be overwintered indoors in a bright position, such as a sunny windowsill.
