ECHINOCEREUS PENTALOPHUS
Habitat: Texas (USA), Central and Eastern Mexico.
Description:
Echinocereus pentalophus is an easy-to-grow cactus with densely packed, finger-like stems that quickly form cascading clusters, perfect for a hanging display. This cactus can reach up to 20 cm in height and extend to 100 cm. In winter, the stems may turn purple and soften but will perk back up in early spring.
Admired for its spectacular blooms, Echinocereus pentalophus produces large flowers up to 12 cm long in shades of lilac, brilliant pink, or magenta with a distinct white throat, nearly covering the plant when it blossoms in spring and summer.
This cactus thrives in a well-draining, porous cactus mix. Water thoroughly in spring and summer, but keep it dry in winter to prevent rot. It’s frost-tolerant for short periods and needs a cool winter rest to encourage flowering. Strong light is essential—place it in bright indoor light or a spot with partial shade outdoors during the hottest hours.
