ECHINOPSIS CHAMAECEREUS CV. CAPTAIN JESSOP
Habitat: Hybrid
Description:
Echinopsis chamaecereus (a hybrid of Chamaecereus and Lobivia) is cherished for its vitality and stunning blooms. These compact cacti produce vibrant clusters of red, fuchsia, and pink flowers from spring through summer, creating a striking contrast against their lush, green bodies. They're particularly suited for beginners, thriving in bright light and benefiting from cool, dry conditions during winter. When grown indoors under the right conditions, they bloom freely and can form impressive clumps bearing 20–30 flowers at once.
Compared to the more delicate Chamaecereus sylvestrii, these hybrids feature thicker, sturdier stems and larger growth. Their offsets attach firmly to the main stem, making them more robust. They're hardy and cold-tolerant—depending on the cultivar, many withstand temperatures as low as –4 °C to –12 °C—making them viable for year-round outdoor cultivation in suitable climates. These sun-loving cacti flourish in full sun or light shade and require minimal care, serving as colourful, resilient additions to any cactus collection
