Euphorbia aeruginosa produces small but striking yellow blooms in spring, which can last for several weeks. Unlike typical flowers, these are unique Euphorbia structures called cyathia—tiny cup-shaped clusters that contain both male and female parts, surrounded by colourful bracts. The bright yellow blossoms stand out beautifully against the plant’s blue-green stems and maroon-red spines, creating a vivid contrast. After flowering, the plant develops small round fruits about 0.3 cm across, each containing three relatively large seeds that may be ejected when ripe. These blooms not only enhance the plant’s ornamental appeal but also attract small pollinators like bees and flies, adding life and movement around the plant during its flowering season.
This plant is extremely hardy and thrives on neglect—ideal if you’re new to gardening. It is drought-tolerant, needs only occasional watering, and rarely has issues with pests or diseases. Place it in a sunny position, either outdoors in a dry garden bed or in a container on a sunny windowsill or patio, and it will reward you with year-round beauty.
Please note: The image is representative, the plant may vary slightly since each plant is unique.
Note: Take care to avoid the white sap that is produced by the plant, as it can be irritating to the skin. Always wash any affected area with soap and water if contact occurs.
