Description:

Ferocactus robustus is a striking small barrel cactus that really stands out. Easy to grow and unlike many other cacti, it can form large, impressive clusters—growing up to 90–100 cm tall and spreading 3 to 5 meters wide. Its bold, rounded shape makes it a real statement piece in any garden or landscape.

In spring and autumn, it puts on a beautiful display of yellow to orange flowers, each about 3–4 cm wide. The petals often have red stripes, and the centre features deep red stigma lobes—adding vibrant contrast and colour.

This rare cactus is perfect for collectors or anyone looking to add something unique and eye-catching to their cactus collection. With its dramatic form and colourful blooms, Ferocactus robustus brings both beauty and character to any space.

Care Guide

Light
Thrive in full sun or bright indirect light. They require at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily to grow optimally. High levels of light are needed to flower and for good spine development. Can be sunburned if moved from shade into full sun too quickly. If grown indoors, place them near a south or west-facing window where they can receive plenty of light.

The plant does not like temperatures below 6°C so it needs to be placed indoors in the coldest periods.

Water
Water every 2–3 weeks in spring and summer, adjusting based on temperature and humidity. In the cooler months, water sparingly, about once every 4–6 weeks. This plant need plenty of water but needs to be avoided wetting the bodies of these plants while they are in sunlight. A wet cactus in the sun light can cause sun burning which can lead to scars or even fungal infections and death.

Soil
Well-drained cactus and succulent mix.
