Mammillaria gracilis fragilis 'Monstrose', commonly known as the 'Arizona Snowcap', is a captivating small cactus celebrated for its distinctive appearance and easy care requirements. Adaptable to various environments, it thrives both indoors and outdoors, making it a popular choice for cactus enthusiasts.

This beautiful cactus has clusters of tiny white spines, which resemble delicate snowballs, earning it the name "Snowcap." In early spring, the plant produces beautiful creamy yellow flowers, further enhancing its appeal. Often found in gardens, the 'Arizona Snowcap' may have originated through hybridization efforts and specialized nurseries. As it matures, it produces multiple offsets, contributing to its unique, clustered appearance.

Typically reaching a height of 8 cm and a diameter of 3 cm, this cactus features a globose to cylindrical dark green stem, covered in prominent, nipple-shaped tubercles. The tubercles are adorned with large, white, woolly areoles from which short, thick spines emerge.

With its striking form and low-maintenance care, the 'Arizona Snowcap' is a visually appealing, drought-tolerant and rewarding addition to any cactus collection.

Care Guide

Light
Exceptionally hardy, thrives in full sun or bright indirect light. They require at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily to grow optimally. High levels of light are needed to flower and for good spine development. Can be sunburned if moved from shade into full sun too quickly. If grown indoors, place them near a south or west-facing window where they can receive plenty of light.

Water
Water every 2–3 weeks in spring and summer, adjusting based on temperature and humidity. In the cooler months, water sparingly, about once every 4–6 weeks. Always allow the soil to dry completely between waterings and avoid letting the plant sit in water to prevent overwatering and root rot.

Soil
The plant requires well-drained soil, such as a mix of pumice, clay, and regular soil, to ensure proper drainage and prevent root rot. A perforated pot is ideal for allowing excess water to escape.
