PILOSOCEREUS PACHYCLADUS
Habitat: Brazil
Description:
Pachycereus pachycladus is slow-growing plant that is relatively easy to grow. This distinctive succulent develops a tree-like structure, gradually branching from the base of its main stem. Over time, it can reach an impressive height of up to 10 metres and features thick branches.
This cactus has a beautiful colour that can look bluish-green or even turquoise, with stunning, almost magical shades. It’s covered in small, white, hairy spots that are very close together. These spots have long, sharp, yellowish spines sticking out.
As the cactus grows older, it develops a special area near the top called a pseudocephalium. This part looks different—it’s covered with thicker hair and stiff bristles, usually on one side of the plant. This is where the flower buds and fruit are produced.
During the summer, the plant blooms with striking white flowers featuring greenish-red outer petals. The fruits, which are reddish-purple in colour, contain shiny black seeds.
This plant is an excellent addition to any cactus collection due to its unique appearance and low-maintenance care requirements. Furthermore, it is entirely safe and non-toxic to both humans and animals.
Please note: The image is representative, the plant may vary slightly since each plant is unique.
