Description:

Rebutia pulvinosa ssp. albiflora is an easy-to-grow evergreen cactus and grows relatively fast, with blue-green foliage and soft, hair-like spines.

Rebutia cacti are popular for their large colourful flowers that open widely during the day and last for several days. Well-grown plants often flower in mass, the flower sometimes completely covering the plant and producing a spectacular display. In spring, this cactus produces abundant white flowers with pink-striped outer petals.

This compact and hardy cactus can grow up to 15 cm tall and produces many "offsets" or "babies" around its base. Known for its prolific seed production, it readily germinates seeds around the parent plant. It thrives both in the ground and in containers, making it an excellent choice for houseplants, even in dry indoor conditions. The plant is also child-friendly, as it has non-sharp, hair-like spines.

Care Guide

Light
Thrives in light shade, as full sun can scorch its delicate structure. Indoors, place it in the sunniest spot, preferably a west- or south-facing window.

Water
This cactus can survive long periods of drought, but it will grow larger and faster with regular watering. The best approach is to follow a "soak and dry" schedule: water deeply until the water drains from the bottom of the pot, then allow the soil to dry completely before watering again. During the growing season (spring and summer), water every 2–3 weeks. In the dormant winter period, reduce watering to once every 4–6 weeks.

Soil
Well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 70% to 80% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite.

It is advisable to re-pot this cactus regularly to promote healthy growth. Re-potting encourages the development of additional stems and increases the number of flowers produced.
