Description:

Senecio rowleyanus variegata "string of pearls" is a striking addition to any plant collection, it is low-maintenance, making it suitable for all levels of plant enthusiasts. This succulent stands out with its trailing vines adorned with bead-like leaves of different colours, including white, cream, and pink that hang gracefully from the stems, extending up to 3 feet. These leaves, plump and semi-translucent, create a delicate and enchanting effect.

Its trailing nature makes it ideal for hanging baskets or draping down from shelves, where the variegated foliage can be fully appreciated as it catches the light.

In spring and summer, flowers bloom in the cooler months small, white, daisy-like flowers with a cinnamon scent.

Propagation is straightforward: simply take stem cuttings, let them dry for a few days, and then plant them in well-draining soil. Keep the soil lightly moist until roots develop. This process allows you to easily grow new plants and expand your collection.

Please note: The image is representative, the plant may vary slightly since each plant is unique.

Care Guide

Light
It can grow in slightly dappled shade, including two to three hours a day of direct sun throughout the year, which encourages flowering and heavy leaf production. However, be cautious of prolonged direct sunlight, as it can scorch the delicate leaves. Indoors, place it in the sunniest spot, preferably a west- or south-facing window.

Water
Water regularly every 2-3 weeks or so, making sure to drench and let all the water drain out of the pot. In the winter, during the dormant period, reduce watering. There should be no high atmospheric humidity during the rest period.

Do not be concerned if all the leaves fall off; simply stop watering and wait until new growth begins. Care must be taken with watering, as they tend to become swollen and untidy in their growth habits if given too much water and shade.

Soil
They are adaptable to a variety of soils and environments but thrive best in a highly porous potting mix that enhances drainage like a cacti or succulent mix.
