STENOCACTUS MULTICOSTATUS
Habitat: Mexico
Description:
Stenocactus multicostatus, commonly known as the wave cactus or brain cactus, is a striking species admired for its distinctive crinkled ribs—sometimes numbering up to 150. Mature plants form a compact, globular shape with densely packed, wavy ribs that resemble intricate pleats, giving it a truly eye-catching appearance.
In spring, this cactus produces an abundance of delicate, funnel-shaped flowers striped in shades of pink to purple. Blooms often continue sporadically into summer, emerging from the crown and followed by small green seedpods. These flowers attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, adding movement and life to your garden.
Due to its compact size, slow growth, and unique ribbed texture, Stenocactus multicostatus is best grown in pots, but it also thrives in well-drained garden beds. Drought-tolerant and low-maintenance, it is an excellent choice for beginners and seasoned collectors alike.
Perfect for windowsills, shelves, or outdoor cactus gardens, this plant’s unusual form and easy care make it a must-have addition to any collection—bringing character, colour, and charm to any space.
