Description:
Sulcorebutia arenacea v. menesesii is a captivating cactus variety, displaying vibrant purple and green hues. This highly clustering plant rapidly produces several "babies" around its base, forming a dense and compact growth. Unlike the standard Sulcorebutia arenacea, this variety is distinguished by its longer, curled spines, and remains small while forming a heavy clump.

This genus of cacti is known for having large, colourful flowers that open wide during the day and last for several days. When well cared for, this cactus produces a stunning display of bright yellow flowers in the spring, often covering the plant entirely and creating a spectacular floral show.

Care Guide

Light
Need some direct sun but is tolerant and prefers light shade during the hot summer months. Indoors, place it in the sunniest spot, preferably a west- or south-facing window.

Water
It is best to follow a "soak and dry" schedule where you water your plants deeply (until water runs out the bottom drain holes), and then allow your soil to dry completely before watering again.

During the growing season, which is typically spring and summer, you can water your cactus every 2-3 weeks. In contrast, during the dormant period in winter, you'll want to reduce watering to once every 4-6 weeks.

Soil
Well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 70% to 80% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite.

It is advisable to re-pot this cactus regularly to promote healthy growth. Re-potting encourages the development of additional stems and increases the number of flowers produced. For best results, re-pot annually, the ideal time for re-potting is at the end of winter, although it can be done at other times as well. After re-potting, avoid watering for a couple of weeks to reduce the risk of root rot caused by any broken roots.
