Description:

Rebutia steinbachii subsp. augustinii is a stunning cactus that brings a vibrant burst of colour to any space with its rich purple and green hues. Compact and low-maintenance, it's an ideal choice for those seeking a striking yet easy-to-care-for plant. This cactus naturally grows in clusters, quickly producing offsets ("babies") around its base to form a dense, attractive mound.

Its small, grey-green stems are nearly hidden beneath a thick covering of fine, amber-colored to reddish-brown spines, giving it a warm, straw-yellow appearance. The plant's areoles are white to yellowish, adding subtle contrast and texture.

Renowned for its vivid blooms, Sulcorebutia augustinii flowers in spring with bright purple blossoms that can cover the entire plant. These wide-opening flowers last for several days, creating a truly eye-catching display.

Highly drought-tolerant and easy to grow, this cactus is perfect for windowsills, decorative pots, or rock gardens. Whether you're an experienced collector or a beginner, it's a beautiful, resilient plant that adds charm and colour to any indoor or outdoor setting.

Please note: The image is representative, the plant may vary slightly since each plant is unique.

Care Guide

Light
Thrive in full sun or bright indirect light. They require at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily to grow optimally. High levels of light are needed to flower and for good spine development. Can be sunburned if moved from shade into full sun too quickly. If grown indoors, place them near a south or west-facing window where they can receive plenty of light.

Water
Water every 2–3 weeks in spring and summer, adjusting based on temperature and humidity. In the cooler months, water sparingly, about once every 4–6 weeks. Always allow the soil to dry completely between waterings and avoid letting the plant sit in water to prevent overwatering and root rot.

Soil
Well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 70% to 80% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite.
